Triumph Tr5/Tr6/Gt6/Vitesse
Performance
Valve Spring Retainers
Complete set of 12 No. performance lightweight
alloy valve spring retainers that are suitable for the
Triumph TR5, TR6, GT6 MkI, II & III, Triumph Vitesse,
Triumph 2000 & 2500S or indeed any car fitted with a Triumph 6
cylinder engine.
The standard valve retainers fitted originally to the above vehicles were
made of steel and worked ok and many owners still have them
fitted to their engines. However, today many classic Triumph owners & driver's
want more performance out of their original engines and the modifications
and upgrades available come in many forms, these alloy valve spring
retainers are one of those modifications.
The principal is simple yet ingenious. The fitting of these lightweight
alloy caps reduces the valve loading applied when operating at high
revs and therefore saves wear on the camshaft lobes. The weight saving
achieved is approximately 50% as compared to using the original steel
valve spring retainers. The engine will rev more freely due to the
action of reciprocal force i.e. with steel retainers there is
more weight resistance and this restricts the revving capabilities
of the engine. The alloy retainers equal less weight for the camshaft
to lift therefore yielding freer engine revving.
The alloy retainers are supplied in a kit of 12 and will suit
either the single or double valve spring arrangement, there is no
need to replace the original springs, the retainers are simply
held in place by the original split collets. It is however recommended
that the spring retainers are replaced in sets of 12 rather
than individually and the fitting of them is very easy. It can
be done by any competent Triumph enthusiast within a short period
of time with nothing more than your standard workshop tools.
For reference, these valve caps are British made and are manufactured
from Grade 7075 aluminium which is very strong and is commonly used
in the aerospace industry for its strength. These valve caps are
a must for the classic Triumph racing enthusiast or those owners
simply wishing to add a touch of performance to their engines.
If you purchased these items from the usual Triumph
parts suppliers then you would have to pay in excess of £25.00.
